Minor Football League
10 June 2008

Kickhams Creggan 1-12
Moneyglass 1-08

Moneyglass travelled up the road to Creggan to take on their neighbours in the Minor League on Tuesday evening. In what was a perfect calm and warm night for football, it was great to see that the home side was in determined mood to win this game and they got off to a blitz of a start by smashing over four points in a row. The first half proved to be the McNulty/McLarnon show as they shared all the scoring between them, with Big Hugh getting the first two and Odhran claiming the next two points.

Moneyglass got off the mark midway through the half but Creggan hit back with Odhran splitting the posts twice more and Hugh chipping in with another point of his own. St. Erganants ended the half though by pointing two frees to leave 4 points between the sides at the short whistle.

Half Time, Kickhams Creggan 0-07, Moneyglass 0-03

The second half was not even a minute gone when Odhran McLarnon drove to the net to extend the Green & Gold lead. This was further added to by David McGuckian who popped over a point to end the duopoly of scoring held by Hugh and Odhran up to this point.

At this stage it appeared that Creggan were starting to turn the screw to get the job done of claiming the two league points on offer, but Moneyglass kept themselves in with a sniff by slotting over a pair of pointed frees. Cathal Small was next on the Creggan score sheet to keep the Kickhams lads ticking over when he slipped one over the bar. Odhran followed this up by winning and converting a free kick. The Creggan forward was by now getting some overly zealous treatment from the visitors which went unpunished by the ref much to the frustration of all present, none more so than Odhran himself.

A bit of drama unfolded next when Moneyglass were awarded an extremely dubious penalty, which was converted past Daniel Bateson who guessed the right way but was just unable to keep the ball out. Their tails were up now and they raised two more white flags in a row to close the gap to just 3 points.

The men in G&G regrouped themselves and they managed to work the ball in to two more scoring positions which they duly applied the finishing touches to and pull themselves further away from danger. The visitors did claw one point back but it was a case of too little too late as the final whistle ended the contest and Creggan ran out four point winners.

Next up for the Minors is another derby clash next week, this time against Cargin, which should prove to be another tight game, but they way these lads are playing the points can certainly be got.
