Minor Camogie Championship v Dunloy

Tuesday, May 3, 2016

The minor camogs travelled to Dunloy on Sunday morning to play the last group game in the round robin, minor championship.

Again Dunloy proved to be too strong and ran out comfortable winners.

However, just as in the previous two group games, the Creggan girls can be extremely proud of their performance.

Maria Carey led the charge in the first half with two superb points from play.

In the second half the Creggan girls really put it up to Dunloy with Mya Quinn showing all her tenacity and lightning pace to grab a goal and a point.

Captain, Caoimhe McAteer was again superb at midfield and put the icing on a super individual performance, slotting over a point in the final quarter.

Una McKeown was a colossus at full back and got onto the score sheet with a massive point from a 45.

Alisha McAuley led from centre half back throughout the game, covering virtually every blade of grass on the pitch.

Having won a free for a high tackle during one of her strong runs into the Dunloy defence, she coolly slotted over the resultant free to cap off a fine individual performance.

Martine McCann put herself all about the park and after a strong run, also got onto the scoreboard with an excellent point from play.

Niamh McCloy and Sile Murray were both outstanding in the Creggan defence.

Playing in her first minor game, Claire McIlwee had an absolute stormer of a game, in goals for Creggan.

Now that the round robin group games are over, the teams will be graded for the semi-finals of the A & B competitions.
