U16 Camogie League v Rossa

Tuesday, May 3, 2016

Played in very blustery conditions, the U16 camogs had Rossa as visitors, in the U16 league on Monday evening.

Rossa won the toss and played with the very strong breeze in the first half.

It was a case of backs to the wall for the Creggan girls.

Maia Carey was excellent in goals, as was Rosie O’Hara at full back.

Lucy Johnston, Claire McIlwee and Dearbhla McCann were also outstanding in defence, while Sile Murray was superb at midfield.

Playing with the breeze in the second half, Creggan were a transformed outfit.

Mya Quinn scored two superb individual goals to really turn the heat up.

Having collected the sliotar at midfield, Mya soloed the full half of the pitch before unleashing an unstoppable shot to the roof of the Rossa net.

Her second goal, a carbon copy of the first, was equally spectacular.

Maria Carey came out of goals for the second half and just like Mya collected a ball at midfield and ran at the Rossa defence, to score a super goal which she quickly followed, with a point.

Paula-Rose McAuley was superb in the heart of the Creggan defence.

As usual Niamh McCloy was outstanding at centre half back, stepping into a number of tackles, were others wouldn’t put a spade!

While Rossa picked up the win, the Creggan girls can be thrilled with an awesome second half performance which had the Rossa girls on the ropes for most of the second half.
