South West “Super 7's Summer” Camogie Blitz

Sunday, July 31, 2016

On Tuesday 28 June a number of south west clubs got together to host a 7-a-side minor camogie blitz.

The brainchild of Cargin camogie coach and Antrim camogie referee Jimmy Totten, the emphasis was on fun and participation.
In the words of Jimmy, “I just wanted to get a number of local camogie clubs together in the while of a summers evening, to have a blitz and a bit of fun while at the same time giving the girls the opportunity to develop and learn from each other.”

The venue for the first of the summer blitzes was Cargin GAC, Toome.
Five clubs in total were represented; Erin’s Own Cargin, Tir na nOg Randalstown, St Mary’s Ahoghill, Geraldine’s Portglenone & Kickham’s Creggan.
Games were played on a round robin basis, with nothing more at stake than parochial pride.

While the weather was slightly unkind mid-way through, at the end of the evening, local bragging rights went jointly to Geraldine’s and Tir na nOg.
All in all, it was a great evening of camogie, with plenty of craic thrown in for good measure.

It is the hope of Jimmy that this is only the first of many similar evenings of super 7’s summer camogie, in the south west area.

Thanks to all the clubs and coaches who participated and a special thanks to Erin’s Own Cargin for use of their facilities.
