ACFL Div. 5
2 July 2008

Kickhams Creggan 2-18
Sarsfields 2-08

The Division 5 side cemented their place at the top of the league and maintained their unbeaten record last night at Paírc í Ciceam with a comfortable enough win over Sarsfields.

In what was supposed to be a 7pm throw in, the match didn’t get started until 7:45pm due to the late arrival of the Belfast side. This didn’t knock the home team out of their stride though as they started brightly and fired over a series of early points to take a comfortable lead. Sarsfields had a purple patch in the middle of the first half though when they converted 2-01 in a matter of minutes to take a one point lead, but Creggan finished the half the stronger side and went in at the break one point to the good. The Kickhams lads played much the better football and it was criminal that the visitors were even in this game by half time!

Half time – Kickhams 0-11, Sarsfields 2-04

Creggan started the second half in determined fashion and much like they did in the first they slotted over a number of early points to pull away and effectively end the challenge of ‘The Paddies’. Kickhams outscored their opponents 2-07 to 0-4 in the second period and the full complement of substitutes were used to utilize the large squad as best possible.

It was good to finally get another league game played and for the lads to get back in to the swing of competitive football again to erase the memory of that brutal championship match against St. Pauls.

Kickhams Team – Peter Graham, Dominic Totten, Sean McLarnon, Paul Russell, Cathal Shannon (Dermot Robb), Danny Maguire, Charlie Devlin, Olly Duffin, Joe Robb, Cathal Small, Terence McKeown (Michael Maguire), Ryan Mullan, Eunan McAteer (Hugh McNulty), Benny Devlin (Michael Dougan), Paddy McAuley (Sam Maguire).
