ACFL Div. 1
5 April 2009

Cargin 0-12
Kickhams Creggan 2-05

Well done to the senior footballers who opened up their league campaign with a very encouraging performance against League Champions and neighbours Cargin.

Played in excellent conditions we started very brightly and early scores from Mark Dougan and Odhran McLarnon put us into an early lead. A combination of good defending and wayward Cargin shooting was giving us great confidence as we really took the game to them. Two Tomas McCann points for Cargin got them back into the game but a well worked goal from Adrian Dougan after nice link up play between Mark Anthony McNicholl and Ciaran McCartney put Creggan back in the driving seat. A late score from Cargin meant the sides went in at half time 0-03 to 1-03.

Cargin started the brighter in the second half. Early points mainly from Michael McCann(4, 2 Frees) put Cargin back into the game. Creggan, during this early period only managed a point from a Mark Dougan 45. Cargin dominated most of the 2nd half and their ability to score from range and acute angles raced them into a 5 point lead. During this time they missed a penalty with Tomas McCann kicking wide. A Mark Dougan free reduced the deficit to 4 in the 58th minute. A late attack and a surging run by Adrian Dougan led to him being fouled and his brother Mark scored from the resulting penalty.  We won the next kickout but the Referee blew his whistle to end the contest.

A lot of positives can be taken from the game to carry forward in to our next match against St. Paul's at home, where the side will be looking to pick up theif first league points to get their season going.
