U16 Ladies League
1 April 2009

Kickhams Creggan 6-07
St. Josephs Glenavy 3-02

Creggan ladies under 16s got their league campaign off to a bright start with a substantial win over Glenavy. Creggan got off to the brighter start and were able to take crucial scores and keep their cool when under pressure from the Glenavy attack to guarantee their first league points.

The young Creggan team (made up mainly of under 14s) took the game to a physically much bigger Glenavy team and were ahead right from the start of the match and never looked back. Senior player Ruby-Marie Rice was ruling mid field and Glenavy had to employ 2, and at times 3, players in an attempt to curb her impact on the game which was opening up space and players elsewhere which Creggan expolited. Scores from Ruby Marie, Sara Redmond and Gabrielle McCann kept Creggan in front, while Ruth Fulton and Nicola Russell were impresive in defence, with centre half back Olivia Browne carrying the ball well into the Glenavy half to set up attacks, and Glenavy had no come back to the continued pressure from Creggan.

This was a great team performance from an impressive group of young players who showed great potential for the rest of the year. Next up is St Teresas at home Wed 15th Apr 6:45.
