Eugene McAlynn 5K Memorial Cup

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

The inaugural Eugene McAlynn Memorial Cup 5K run/walk took place at Creggan on Easter Monday. There was a great turnout with close to 50 runners/walkers taking part. Oistin McAteer was first past the finish line in a time of 16 minutes.

A huge thanks to the McAlynn family for putting forward the idea for the event in memory of Eugene who was a popular person around the club, and also for sponsoring the trophy.

In excess of £500 was raised on the day for cancer charity which was a brilliant total, and many thanks to all who donated.

Such was the success of the event it is planned to be an annual club feature over the Easter holidays from now on.

Once again many thanks to all the runners, spectators, marshalls and donations who made the day a huge success.
