Creggan swept aside a much fancied Gort na Mona team at Glenavy to reach this years U21 football final.

In truth, Creggan were never in any danger of losing this match as they set about the Belfast side from the first whistle. A couple of early points from Leigh and Odhran settled the team in to their stride with Gort na Mona responding with an early score of their own.

The majority of the play was flowing towards the Gort's net and this was reflected on the score board as Odhran, Hugh, Martin and Leigh(2) all kicked between the posts.

Gort na Mona had a 5 minute spell of domination towards the end of the first half when they split the posts 3 times but this was countered by another pointed free from Leigh to leave Creggan ahead by double scores.

Creggan came out after the break in even meaner mood as they totally dominated the second thirty minutes. It was a Green & Gold onslaught as they effectively killed the game by shooting 5 points on the bounce with Leigh(2), Hugh(2) and Martin being destroyers in chief.

The Gort's got their only score of the second half towards the end in one of their few forays up the field. A raft of subs were introduced with Paddy McAuley, Cathal Small and Paul Russell getting some game time as they replaced Leigh Martin, Hugh McNulty and Aidan McKeown.

This didn't stop the scoring though as Creggan continued to push forward with Odhran, Conor McCann and finally Tommy McCann all registering points apiece.

The final whistle blew to end the contest and thoughts now turn towards the final on Friday 29th May at Casement where we will meet neighbours Cargin. What a contest that promises to be....
