ACFL Div. 4
05 July 2009

St. Johns 0-08
Kickhams Creggan 3-13

Played in excellent conditions though with a stiff enough breeze blowing down the field, Creggan dominated this game from first whistle to last. It was expected to be a game of two halves with Creggan playing against the wind in the opening period but in truth it turned out to be all Creggan even though the half time score line of 1-04 to 0-03 flattered the hosts.

Creggan had numerous goal chances that all went abegging that could have put a seal on the match early on. The result leaving St. Johns very much in the game. The Creggan goal was scored by Michael Sweeney who was at the end of a well worked '3 on 2' move.

Playing with the wind in the second period Creggan killed the game off pretty much in the first 10 minutes as points were kicked with increasing regularity, Michael Maguire being destroyer in chief.

Creggan mananged to get another 2 goals in the second half; one from a slick worked fisted effort from Benny Devlin and the other a superb lobbed effort from 'The Budge'. By all accounts the goal only came about from the soothsayerlike vision of that old wizard Teddy McKeown who found Martin McCann in acres of room.

It was pleasing to see Mark Sweeney back in a Creggan jersey again and he did tremendous work in the half forward line and he could be pleased with his contribution.

This result gets Creggan back on the winning track again in Division 4 just in time for the upcoming Reserve Championship on Wednesday night where the boys travel to Rasharkin in their opening round. It would be great to have a big turnout to support the team as the club enters the eagearly awaited Championship time.
