ACFL Div. 5
13 April 2008

Ahoghill 0-4
Kickhams Creggan 3-17

Creggan reserves got off to a flying start in the first match of the new 2008 season away to neighbours Ahoghill. Playing in Division 5 this year, the team were eager to lay down a marker to the rest of the division of their intent to win the league. They did so in some fashion by totally dominating an Ahoghill side in every area of the pitch.

Creggan, playing with the breeze in the first half, got off to an explosive start with 2 goals in the opening 10 minutes from Cathal Small and Eunan McAteer which set the tone of the game. Points were added with considerable regularity throughout the half with Ahoghill forays in to the Creggan rear guard few and far between. Lee Martin with 6 points was the top scorer in the opening period. Also on the score sheet were Seamie Allen (0-2), Sam Maguire (0-3), and Terence McKeown (0-2). The midfield sector was dominated by Olly Duffin and Ryan ‘Ja’ Mullan and the supply of ball in to the Creggan full forward line was of high quality making score taking so much easier. Half Time Ahoghill 0-1, Kickhams 2-13.

Playing into the breeze, the scoring in the second half was considerably less than the opening half with Creggan notching 1-4 in response to the home sides 3 points. Top marksman Lee Martin netting the goal and another point, with Teddy, Cathal Small and Aidan Maguire finishing the scoring.

A great start by the reserves and the level of play was of a high standard so it’s looking good for the coming year. Also it was great to see that all six Kickhams forwards got on the score sheet.
