All County Minor Championship Semi-Final
16 September 2009

Kickhams Creggan 2-10
Cargin 1-07

Creggan secured their passage through this Semi-Final at Casement Park to book their second successive Minor Championship Final appearance against Gort na Mona.

As is the way with local derbies this was a keenly fought match between two sides who did not want to be beaten by each other. Creggan had a number of selection problems going into the game with a couple of players suspended, and others injured so a few positional and personnel changes were enforced.

This did not seem to hinder Kickhams though as the scoring was point for point until mid way through the first half when midfielder Aidan McKeown found space inside the area to slam the ball to the net. A few more points were tacked on to the scoreboard from Creggan to leave the match at the short whistle, Kickhams Creggan 1-06, Cargin 0-04.

The second period more or less mirrored the first only this time it was the turn of Cragin to get the goal. Indeed this score was hotly disputed by the Creggan reargurd as they were adamant that the ball did not cross the line before Paddy McLarnon hacked it clear. Nonetheless the green flag was raised and Cargin had their tails up.

Not to be outdone though, Creggan regrouped and after a strong burst out of defence by Ferghal McGrenaghan, he laid the ball off to Hugh McNulty who in turn transferred it to Damian McLarnon who duly dispatched to the net to put the G&G back in the driving seat.

Some wayward shooting by the opposition forwards allied with some stout defending by Creggan was enough for them to see out the remainder of the match and advance though to the final of the Championship.

After a long, ardous and protracted route through this year's Championship it is rewarding for these players, management and the club to be once agian contesting this years final. Well done!
