Friday, April 29, 2011

In a derby match at sun kissed Toome on Sunday evening, Kickham's U14 hurlers won the South West Antrim, Thomas McCann Plasterers Feile na nGael final, beating local rivals Tir na nOg Randalstown, in the process.

Right from the throw-in the Kickhams lads made their intention clear with some fine defensive work and intelligent build-up play. The inspirational Conor Small was in super form, finishing with an impressive personal tally of 0-7. Not to be out done, little brother Kevin, struck a superb goal midway through the first half. On the stroke of half time, goalkeeper Liam Quinn pulled off a super reflex save, to keep the Whitehill men scoreless at the end of the first half.

Further goals by Tiarnan McAteer and Cormac Rice in the second half, followed by another point, wrapped up a fine overall team performance.

FT: Kickham’s 3-9, Tir na nOg 0-1.
