South West Féile win for U14 hurlers

Monday, May 5, 2014
Creggan, captained by Eunan McAteer, claimed yet another South West Féile victory when the U14 hurlers beat Tir na Nóg on Sunday 27th April at Cargin. Having narrowly beaten St Mary’s Rasharkin in a competitive semi-final, hopes were high for another final win. However, as in the semi-final, Creggan were soon 3 points down owing to some fine scoring by the opposition forwards. From the eight minute onwards Creggan completely dominated the first half. Some fine point scoring by Eunan McAteer and Morgan Nelson as well as a goal by Morgan saw Creggan lead 1-5 to 0-3 at half time.
The second half was a very tense affair. Tir na Nóg began very strongly, scoring two unanswered points and the Creggan defense stood firm against a period of sustained attack by the opposition team. Some calm was restored when Dermot Mulholland netted for Creggan, however, Tir na Nóg responded quickly with a goal of their own to make the score 2-05 to 1-05 in favour of Creggan with only five minutes remaining. Creggan held on to seal victory and to win the South West Féile yet again.
It is worth noting that this is a very young Creggan team, with only one of the current panel moving on next year. On the day of the final all players played well and dug deep when required.

1. Ethan Small, 2. Owen Grant, 3. Mark McCann, 4. Odhran Lynn, 5. Peter McGinley, 6. Aaron Hughes, 7. Lee Johnston, 8. Eunan McAteer (0-3), 9. Eamon óg McAllister, 10. Séan McAllister, 11. Morgan Nelson (1-2), 12. Dominic McAteer, 13. Joe McAteer, 14. Dermot Mulholland (1-0), 15. Séan Duffin. Subs: 16. Séan Donnelly, 17. Michael Murray, 18. Cian Graffin, 19. Odhran Hampsey.
